40D Focusing is fast, accurate and easy in all shooting conditions thanks to a new improved AF sensor with 9 cross-type AF points and more precise AF detection. All 9 AF points feature a cross-type sensor for f/5.6 and allow both vertical and horizontal line sensitive focus detection for highly stable focusing. Detection performance is improved by a small sensor pitch, and the cross-type AF sensor at the center AF point is sensitive to vertical and horizontal lines at f/2.8. Accelerated sensor signal reading enables accurate focusing even during 6.5fps continuous shooting. When subjects are extremely defocused, two-line focusing with horizontal line sensitive sensors at the center reduces inconsistent focusing detection to allow quick, accurate AF control.
450D The precise auto focus system of the EOS 450D keeps you focused for sharp images. Featuring a diamond-shaped array of nine AF points, this newly improved system delivers outstanding coverage of nearly any subject, both in horizontal and vertical formats. The nine AF points — one high-precision cross-type center AF point with f/2.8 sensitivity and eight others compatible at f/5.6 — provide fast, accurate auto focus for any Canon EF lens even when shooting in low-light environments. Focus points can be assigned automatically using one of three different AF modes or manually. When your subject is properly focused, an indicator conveniently appears in the viewfinder. The system also automatically corrects shifts in the focus point caused by different light sources for more consistent performance.
400D For smooth operation and flexibility needed for creative expression, the EOS 400D DIGITAL has a 9-point AF sensor that enables fast and high-precision focus detection plus enlarged subject coverage. Convenient cross keys provide fast and easy AF point selection. For more accurate shooting and additional flexibility, focusing points are in a diamond-shaped layout with a central AF point offering cross-type focusing, regardless of lens brightness. In addition, higher precision focusing is possible when using lenses brighter than f/2.8. Such variable focusing enables quick adjustment for a variety of compositions and shooting situations.
Canon’s AF (auto focus) sensors have won renown for their sensitivity and precision. EOS Digital SLRs can use selected focus points to support AF all the way to f/2.8*. AF remains effective in extremely low-light conditions, with a required brightness range of only EV-0.5 to EV18 on entry-level models.
